This year for Christmas I decided to tackle my most difficult challenge yet, setting this lovely raspberry pink tourmaline in a combination of white & yellow 9ct gold creating a new ring design featuring the colours of the mixed metals.
I decided to set the tourmaline on white gold as it would allow the true colour of the cabochon to be seen once set. A yellow base would slightly alter the colour hue and therefore not show the stone at it's raspberry best :-)
I love the combination of white & yellow gold, the white gold I used in my design is not rhodium plated so what you see is it's natural colour and not the popular rhodium plated bright white colour normally associated with white gold.
As I was using white gold for the base I decided that I would like to have a band of the white colour visible at the bottom of my setting so I used 1mm white sheet in my base and a matte finish which subtly highlights the colour contrast. I added texture to the base of the setting to link it's design with the texture of the ring band.
